Colleges Provide Practical Education for Employment By Michael Bustamante

Published by admin under Education Abroad

Colleges promote higher education and provide for the acquisition of knowledge, experience, and intellectual development important to life success, employment, and occupation. Colleges propose to provide perceptions and outlooks that prepare students for all kinds of careers.

Colleges are generally considered to be four-year institutions of higher education that offer programs of study and grant degrees and certificates to students who satisfactorily complete courses of study for degree purposes. The term college also designates a school or unit of a university, as in College of Art or a College of Education.

Colleges can also be post-secondary vocational and technical schools with programs intended to provide practical education for employment purposes and for advancement of careers. Vocational, technical, trade schools and colleges grant associate degrees, certificates, diplomas, and even bachelor and master degrees in many areas of practice.

Colleges and universities are both institutions of higher learning that provide studies in subjects that include practices and theories of disciplines or domains. Colleges are generally four-year institutions that confer four-year associate degrees and bachelor degrees. They can also provide graduate studies for advanced certificates and master degrees, but seldom confer doctorate degrees.

Universities are most often more complex institutions that provide studies of varying levels of sophistication. Undergraduate as well as graduate studies for degrees are granted by universities in the forms of associate, bachelor, master, and doctorate degrees. Universities also grant post-graduate certificates in various disciplines that advance graduate professions.

Summer Graduate Art Programs Abroad By Peter Emerson

Published by admin under Education Abroad

Most of us cherish the dream of studying abroad and experiencing a different culture from close quarters. No matter how short or long the duration of the program, studying abroad gives a new edge to your qualifications and a new perspective to your thoughts.

Most American universities have arrangements with various universities around the world for summer programs and student exchanges. Check with your school’s Art Department for such arrangements. There are also country-specific summer programs in art. Some universities entertain applications for summer programs abroad even though you don’t belong to that university.

There are many organizations, such as American Institute of Foreign Study, Art Research Tours and International Studios, which arrange for study programs abroad. Many of them conduct seminars on study-abroad programs and summer courses. Attending them and browsing their websites should clarify most of your doubts. The Center for International Education (CIE) administers various funding programs designed to promote international education in USA.

Before signing up for a program, you should make a checklist of your own: cost of the program, additional expenses like travel, board and lodge etc; whether funding is available; and whether you are allowed to work part-time during your stay.

Decide whose art fascinates you the most and what culture you want to experience – Oriental, European, African or Latin. Consider also whether you want to live in a big city or a small town; whether you want to stay with a local family, take an apartment of your own or share the dormitories with local students or students form America.

You need to apply well in advance, generally at the beginning of the academic year, as per the rules of the school. Some schools don’t entertain applications 40-50 days before the date of departure; some may accept late applications with additional fees. An application should be accompanied by the prescribed deposit. You’ll have to pay the remaining fees after the application is accepted. A refund is available in case your application is rejected. If you wish, you can obtain trip cancellation insurance should an unforeseen incident compel you to cancel the trip.

You need to have the prescribed GPA score and your application should be accompanied by recommendation letters from your professors. You need to present a medical form signed by a doctor certifying your health.

The number of credits you receive for a summer program differ form school to school. It may be in the range of 3-6 credits. You can spread your credits over more than one summer.

How to Fill Out a Scholarship Application - 6 Rules to Always Follow By H R Miller

Published by admin under Financial-Aid

Filling out scholarship applications can be very frustrating and confusing. Every scholarship has different requirements and different deadlines. It is difficult enough to finish just one college application let alone fill out several scholarship applications.

But don’t worry! I have a few tips that will help you get through the process a lot smoother.

Read The Applications carefully

Every scholarship is different. Unfortunately no two applications have the same requirements. One application may ask for 1000 word essay while another one may ask for a 500 word essay. That’s why it is so important to read and get a full understanding of what is required before you submit your application. Otherwise it will be discarded and you would have wasted precious time.

Prepare, prepare, prepare.

Have you ever heard the statement “proper preparation prevents poor performance”? The 5 P’s. This could not be further from the truth. You see, if you are smart, and I know you are, you will be applying for several scholarships in the hope of possibly going to school absolutely free. You don’t want to wait until the last minute and throw together an essay or personal statement. Prepare in advance. Practice your personal statement. I would recommend you start doing scholarship research and start writing the rough draft of your personal statement 6 months before the deadline. Take time out a few times a week to work on it. This is very important stuff. These companies look at thousands of applications a day. You want to make sure yours stands out.

Work within the space you are given

By this I mean do not use continuation sheets on your scholarship applications. They give you specific requirements for a reason. If they say 1000 words keep it at 1000 words. This is why it is so important to prepare. List only what is important for that particular application. If you have extra space after you do that then you can add in some extra stuff.

Give them what they want

Always give the provider of the scholarship exactly what they are asking for. If they are looking for someone with leadership skills then give them an example of your leadership skills. If they want someone with excellent writing skills then show that to them in your application. Use your personality traits to your advantage.

Explain why you want to study a particular subject

Many mess up on this step. They fail to give a logical reason why they want to study a particular subject. There has to be a reason why you chose your major of choice. Relay this in your application.

Proofread

Before you mail off your application make sure you proofread it. Have someone else proofread it as well. Sometimes a fresh pair of eyes can catch something you might not. Make sure you are getting your message across very clear. If it passes the 2 proofreads mail it off and believe for the best.
