How to make a resume better is not really the question to ask. One should rather pay attention to the most common mistakes people make when compiling or writing a resume.

The whole purpose of a resume is to promote yourself beyond compare to such extend that the employer find it hard not to invite you for an interview. You must not use it as an alternative to the official application form.

Many people, more often than not, make the mistake to think that your resume is about giving the employer a short rundown of your career history. On the contrary! The whole resume revolves around you. What you are capable of, how you achieved your capability, in what different ways do you apply your skills and how the skills you have will be beneficial to the employer. An employer uses a resume to try and establish to what extend will you be able to carry out the required tasks relating to the vacant position.

One of the most fatal mistakes job hunters make with their resume’s are not to indicate in what direction they are moving to, what goals do they want to reach with resemblance to their careers. How do you do that? You describe it under your job objective. If you yourself do not know where you want to go, how do you expect the employer to know what function you can fulfil in the business?

Now, how do you impress an employer on a piece of paper? Know what “PAR” is. PAR is the acronym for Problem; Action; Results. Make use of previous experiences. Explain very briefly, what the problem was, what the action you took was and what the positive results of your action were.

In conclusion, how simple it may seem, employers have a serious dislike in “all dressed up” resumes. For a better chance, rather use the simplified way on white or ivory paper of good quality. Also, avoid using coloured paper unless you are an artist or similar reason. Copying coloured paper results in very bad copies and by now you know, employers seek for a simplified way of assessing candidates.
