Very soon BMW car dealers up and down the country will be making space in their showrooms for the new 5 series which will be going on sale in early 2010. It sounds like an exciting prospect for those of you who are looking to buy a new BMW in the coming months. However, upon first look at the 5 series the excitement may wane a little, as it isn’t a particularly ground breaking design. From some angles it looks like a Jaguar, and from others an Aston Martin and unfortunately all the bits in between do come across as slightly dated.

It is the drive that counts though, and this new 5 series boasts an eight speed gearbox and extra legroom, which will surely count towards general driving enjoyment and comfort. There are also lots of extras to choose from for those of you who enjoy an easier driving experience, including Park Assist, which will literally parallel park the car for you, and BMW Night Vision with pedestrian detection. It all sounds very high-tech and modern but I’d have to ask the car dealer if there is a version that just lets me drive it, as opposed to it driving me. Have we begun losing our enthusiasm for driving now that all this new technology is possible?

Either way, executives all over the country are going to want a piece of this new design, as it is set to eclipse the Jaguar XF in the popularity stakes for its target buyers. Car dealers will be celebrating the fact that the CO² emissions are lower than ever before and this beats its rivals, namely Mercedes Benz, Audi and Jaguar by a fair amount.

The interior is very driver orientated, which is pleasing on the eye and the dash board is classic if not a little crowded. The upholstery seems to only come in cream, although BMW may release another option. I would challenge anyone to keep the cream coloured seats dirt and mark free after using the car a few times! It looks surprisingly delicate inside, and although it is luxurious, I have to question whether it is practical? BMW car dealers everywhere, I’m sure, will be awaiting these questions and more at the 5 series release in 2010.
