Buying a new car can be a daunting prospect. There’s an endless list of decisions to make with apparently no convenient conclusion. Well, whilst choices such as what make or model of care you’re looking for may be rather difficult, you can be sure to keep one decision simple; where to buy your car from.

There are three different types of car dealers: Official, Franchise and Independent. Each type of dealer has their own benefits and disadvantages. In order to gain a true insight into the deals available to you, be sure to look into all three types of car dealers in your local area - you might be surprised at the deals you can find.

Official car dealers can be the most expensive option when buying either a new or used car, and are associated with an individual manufacturer. However, you can be certain that the car you buy is guaranteed to be of high standards (often referred to as ‘approved’), and as specialists in specific manufacturers, the advice you receive will be comprehensive. Furthermore, the dealership themselves will offer an array of aftercare and support to purchasers such as extended warranties and guarantees to ensure worry-free motoring. Depending on the type of car you wish to buy, be sure to consider these options.

Purchasing your car from a franchise or chain dealers can prove to be a slightly cheaper option than buying direct from a main Official Dealers. Whilst some dealers are associated with individual manufacturers, the variety of cars available is often wider, whilst the quality condition of the cars is equally as varied. Many dealerships do still offer the wide range of facilities such as warranties and servicing, so be sure to compare the deals offered here with those offered in Official car dealers.

Buying your car from independent car dealers is almost certainly the cheapest option available to you, but this drop in price does come at a cost - the range of dealer facilities such as warranties and servicing might be much more limited than the other types of car dealers. The variety of cars available can be extensive, with dealers offering luxury 4×4s and budget entry level cars in the same forecourt. However, whilst a certain car may look like a bargain on the outside, be sure you know exactly what it is you are purchasing, as there is little help on hand afterwards should something go wrong. Further to this, the dealers themselves may not be specialists in any make of car, or any field of motoring as such. So be intuitive and evaluative when receiving advice and guidance.
